Nije što je moj...

Ovu sam temu postavio prije mjesec dana i nije pobudila neki interes... medutim ocito je da se situacija drasticno promjenila
pa da ne polemiziramo i raspravljamo o Sebenzi u Navigatorovoj temi o Benchu,
navalite....

Iskreno da ga imam bilo bi mi žao narezati kupus s njim! Prekrasan nož šta je je.

ne bi ja baš reka da je benchmade za kupus...

Volio bih čuti vlasnike ovog lijepog noža što navode kao njegovu prednost. Ja ga nisam imao u rukama ( vjerojatno i neću ) pa nije red o njemu nešto govoriti. Moj stav je da ne volim monolock bravice a posebno sam oprezan kada je S30V Chrisa Reeve- a u pitanju. Da izbjegnemo priču o novcu evo slika dva moja noža koji koštaju kao ovaj jedan:

gle vidim da te moj post dirnuo u zivac i to mi je drago,znaci da nesto vrijedi...
ali ako si dobro procitao i do kraja , napisao sam da nisam nikoga htio uvrijedit .nedaj Boze!
inace protiv Benchmadea nemam ali bas nista protiv,dapace imam Bench TSUNAMI preko 13,14g i jedan mi je od najdrazih foldera,










i nemam protiv ni jednog brenda nista lose a pametno za reci a imao sam desetke foldera i najveca su mi simpatija upravo oni




a ako si fan a jesi Bencha ,znas koliko je to rijedak noz,kod nas pogotovo, i ne pada mi na pamet govorit da Bench nije dobar brend ali i dalje stoji da sa Kraljicom(citaj SEBENZOM) nema usporedbe.. i da te odbbrovoljim stavit cu par njihovih slika u ljubavnom zagrljaju...













nadam se da smo malo smirili strasti i disemo lakse, al za kraj ti moram reci jos jedno- prekrasni su ti nozevi.. narocito ovaj zelenkasti.. :bog:

oprosti al stvarno su zenskasti skroz.. s laganim bljeskovima muzevnosti.. recimo onaj drugi,da je u nekoj ozbiljnoj boji,, (roza,ljubicasta,pastelna zuta itd...)

Ovi noževi služe da bi privukli žene tako da je i estetska prednost zapravo na njihovoj strani.

Na znam kaj je na ovim folderima toliko "ženskasto"? Meni su osobno vrlo lijepi, pogotovo ovaj zeleni model što ne mogu reći za Sebenzu koja je dizajnerski dosadna, hladna i na prvi pogled nimalo zanimljiva.

Da me nebi krivo shvatili, u kvalitetu i ekskluzivnost Sebenze se ne diram, to je drugi par rukava.

vidiš mraz, to je ono meni najljepše kod sebenze, ta jednostavnost i hladan dizajn, to mi daje dojam pouzdanosti

Kad smo već počeli diskutirati Sebenzu:

Prije čelika S30V Chris Reeve je koristio čelik BG-42 (Ball Bearing Grade, korišten za balinjere u ratnim avionima). Navodim jedan komentar kojeg piše Sal Glesser, vlasnik Spyderca:

Cliff - Sorry if I gave that impression. Of the steels that we have tested for edge retention and initial sharpness, there were 4 in that "upper" range of our own tests. 440V, 420V, BG-42 and ZDP-189.

In actual numbers (smaller range done from averages) BG-42 tested better than CPM-440V & ZDP-189 in both initial sharpness and edge retention. This was with Chris' heat treating.

We were convinced enough that we've already received a batch of BG-42 that is currently being cut for the Military Jr. experimental batch. We're hoping Chris will help us with heat treat.

Also keep in mind that BG-42 is not a "normal" ingot steel. It has been specially refined "grain structure-specific".

We have some BG-42 samples going to "Q"-Fog testing for corrosion resistance.

Welcome to the forums! It's great to have you on board.

To answer your question, "Yes", tests have been done for the past 13 years; not only by us but also by our customers. We have NEVER had a knife sent back because the lock has failed. I have NEVER heard of one failing either.

Spyderco has done testing and the lock failed at 400 + lbs., but NOT catastrophically. It merely bulged at that point. The knife was still be serviceable but the blade a little sloppy. I cannot bench press 400 + lbs., can you? I can think of no situation where that kind of force would actually be used.

On the Sebenza inlays we tried a different method of cutout but decided to go back to our original method for continuity in our production rather than which was the best. Dennis is right when he says the thickness of the cutout under the clip remains consistent.

We at CRK do not change for the sake of changing. There must be a definite improvement. The Sebenza was given that name for one reason and we take the execution of that very seriously.

These kinds of threads are always interesting, even if not always totally conclusive and my thanks to Sal and everyone else for their input. I thought I would make some comments - give a little of my philosophy as to why I use BG42 and resist some of the other materials suggest!

I have a substantial financial investment in the equipment and processes that are used in my workshop. I have chosen to go along a path that involves my designs, my style of machining and certain types of materials. None of these choices have been made by accident or without substantial research. That I choose not to use a blade material suggested is based on a wide variety of reasons, not simply its cutting ability, or cost, or whether the material is easy or difficult to machine or whether it is trendy.

The fact that the Sebenza is a semi-production knife does not mean that if there is a better material we would or could not change to it. The point is that it has to be substantially better to warrant the cost of the R&D and new processes.

Talonite won’t work in my production because it would involve a major change in how we make our blades. A change like that would cost a tremendous amount in time and equipment and I do not believe that the performance of Talonite warrants that. I would like to see some Catia cutting test results some day – how about it Sal?

Do not misunderstand me by thinking I would never change to some other material, but for now, BG42 is the most appropriate steel for me. That BG42 is ingot steel and not CPM does mean it is inferior. BG42 is used for the manufacture of ball and roller bearings, which are used in the turbines that hold the airplanes of our favorite airlines in the air! The manufacturing requirement is to aircraft mil specs, so the material is extremely clean and consistent. This is achieved by the VIM (vacuum induction melt) / VAR (vacuum arc remelt) process that refines the material and burns out impurities. If needed, the process will be done twice.

Vanadium is a very desirable metal to have in the mix, but too much is not good either. Metallurgy is a rapidly advancing science and who knows what changes are to come. Machining and grinding methods are changing rapidly as well and these may enable us to work more easily with some of the high vanadium alloys. Some of the higher Vanadium content steels are very wear resistant in controlled cutting tests but, under general-purpose use, leave something to be desired.

Remember making one knife is one thing, making 100 of them is a whole different ball game. I have been at both ends of the spectrum - I started this company making one knife at a time in my garage at home 16 years ago. Now we make 200 knives at a time and, believe me, the problems multiply rather than diminish.

We have no secrets in heat treatment process - we just work hard at it and pay close attention to the details. The spirit of a blade lies in the heat treatment process. It does not matter how good the grade of steel is, if it is not heat treated properly then it will not perform. We continually explore ways to improve the processes we use - refining our heat treatment, bringing our tolerances closer and ensuring that our knives are the best we can possibly make.

Evo i posljednji štos za one koji sumnjaju u integral frame lock (iz jedne revije):

The only issue with the frame locks is the wear. Since the lock bar rubs against the blade tang which is harder (or at least is supposed ot be) the lock bar wears and eventually the blade will develop wobble, and the lock will probably overengage. Apparently the risk of failure is increased. However CRK addressed this issue by heat treating the lock bar surface contacting the blade tang. As it was explained on CRK Forum on Bladeforumss by heating the lock bar contacting surface, very thin layer of Ti carbides are formed (you can actually see that layer on your lock bar if you check). It's very hard, approx 90HRC. That solves the bar wear problem. At least there are several people using their Sebenzas regularly for several years and there's no such problem for them. As of the ease of use, frame lock is easier to operate then all of the liner locks I've ever had, however less comfortale than the Axis Lock.
